Report: Kyle Carpenter to receive Medal of Honor

The Marine Corps Times is reporting that former Marine Kyle Carpenter will be awarded the Medal of Honor. The award stems from actions in Afghanistan when Carpenter was a 21-year-old lance corporal. According to reports, Carpenter dove on a grenade, saving the life of a fellow Marine. Carpenter was seriously wounded in the explosion, breaking numerous bones and losing an eye and many teeth.  He was recently profiled on a segment of Katie Couric’s daytime talk show:

The White House has yet to make an announcement and would not comment on the award to the Marine Corps Times or other media sources. If awarded, Carpenter would become the seventh living Medal of Honor recipient from the war in Afghanistan and the 10th recipient overall from the War in Afghanistan. Four Medals of Honor have been awarded for actions in the war in Iraq, all of which were award posthumously.
